Mar 10th 2006 boot and rear valance repairs, strip underseal

Finished the rear valance and boot repairs, went ahead and stripped off all of the underseal, a noisy dirty job, but found a few spots to weld. Biggest surprise was behind the front shock mounts, the metal looked fine but once I removed the bracket found 2 layer area of metal rusted through so welded in a nice thick piece here. Also had to do a repair to the area around the left rear shock mount, not an easy area to work in so this is a bit untidy but strong enough. At least this area is covered by the fuel tank so no-one will see the repair!
After re-checking for any rust sprayed the whole underside with a coat of epoxy primer. Used an HVLP gun for the first time and found it much better, cleaner (i.e. less clouds of toxic waste drifting towards the neighbours yards!) and much easier to clean up after use. I am now looking for somewhere to get the rest of the bodywork mediablasted as my wife has had enough noise and mess for one project...
