Dec 20th 2005 Front wings and apron

New liner and the welder is running great agin. Welded up the scuttle repair patch then I cut out the right inner wing for the Intercooler. Spent countless hours trying to get the panels aligned, at times I wondered if it would fit together at all. Biggest problems were the gap between wing and scuttle and the seams between wing and front panel below the headlights. At times some seams seemed to be an inch off. In the end I decided to start with the A panels and work forward, reasoning that the A panels are fixed by the door gaps. The scuttle gap is the biggest challenge, there is not as lot that can be done plus I can't even see how you would weld the seam up there. As to the rest, once I got the wings started, the front panel actually ended up fitting quite well, only a little jumping up and down on it was needed to get things aligned. In the end I am quite pleased with the fit on those seams and I'm sure they will be great.
Now I can finish stripping the shell, front and rear subframes are out, stripped and ready for:- cleanup/painting (front) In rubbish pile (rear) Ordered most of the parts I will need from minispares and minisport in UK Even with shipping to USa minispares are quite a bit cheaper than Minimania. In fact on a batch of small light parts was $400 with express shipping and same parts were $800 without shipping at Minispares...HALF the cost. Say no more.... minispares gets my vote!
