Dec 15th 2005 scuttle and firewall
Started on welding, patched in some repairs to left scuttle and then moved to right. This side is worse so cut away the bad metal including the lip that holds the "A" panel. Got a patch panel and made the most basic mistake... I assumed that it was correct, aligned the door hinge holes up and welded it on. THEN decided to check it with the "A" panel and the holes were in completely the wrong place so the panel is off by 1/2 inch. After cussing and swearing for about 30 mins (sorry neighbors!!) calmed down and decided to cut and refold the lip that holds the "A" panel, did that and its fine, but I'm still bloody annoyed with myself! The trusty old Mig welder is not working well, I think the gun is old and stiff (A bit like me!!) and the wire does not seem to feed smoothly, Problem is its a real old Maraquette unit and I don't think I can get a replacement gun. I plan to take it down the welding supply store and see whats possible. Meanwhle I will continue cutting out the rust and preparing patches
